Very Angry Girls, or V.A.G. as most people call them, are a four piece punk rock band based in Limerick. The band is made up of Sinead Mitchell on guitar and lead vocals, Loulou McCormack on bass guitar and backing vocals, Carolyn Bourke on lead guitar, and Larissa Mirtschink on drums. Loulou is a former UL student and Out in UL committee member. She and the rest of the girls are all working on degrees in UL, LSAD and LIT. However for the past year or so, V.A.G. has been first and foremost in their lives. The girls first demo was received exceptionally well around the country. The demo titled ‘Safety Pin Grin’ was picked up by international and national radio, including our own 2fm. The band were also featured several times in GCN magazine. The magazine have always been a great support to the band, often giving them titles like ’(vag live gig is) one of the top ten things to do in June’, and naming them one of the ‘Seven things it’s cool to like right now’.
The girls put on a wicked live show, and have a fun packed summer planned. Last summer V.A.G. played a number of high profile gigs like Milk Festival, and AMF festival. These festivals were alongside Banannarama, Sophie Ellis Bextar, Right Said Fred, Heathers, Mundy, Imdela May, Roisin Murphy, Samantha Fox, Alexandra Burke, and many many more.
V.A.G. released their debut EP in Dolans Warehouse on 5th May 2011. The EP was recorded right here in Limerick using $1000 that the girls raised online by fans. The EP is named after the title track “Red Balloon”, and it can be purchased on the link below. The single has already received considerable airplay on Irish radio, especially on 2fm by top dj’s Dan Hegarty, Dave Fanning, and John Walshe.
