She is a Limerick Gem

Good morning evening night people of out in UL and surrounding areas ;)

My name is PearlStar* Sashay but most people call me Pearl :) . Right so ye want to know where I came from and why I do what I do? Its very, very simple… I am here to see you smile! I am here to watch you cheer! I am here to hear you Roar…and join in if I can!

Why? because that’s what I do! I cheered, I roared, I smiled, I shrieked, I squealed, I dropped my jaw at how good they were!

It all started in Australia, the first time I ever saw a drag queen I remember looking at my friend and being speechless, the Glamour, the Performance, The Character, THE SHEER COMMITMENT TO IT!!!! I thought
it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I religiously attended a show there every Thursday night!

Well, then I forgot about it for a while and moved home…. met my amazing partner whom I would be lost without and then the legacy began. I missed most AML’s because a dear friend in the uk’s birthday is on the same weekend. I attended it one year, watched the people on stage and said I will be on that stage and I will show people how its done( how wrong was I!) .The following year I decided the week before I would enter… then I chickened out thankfully!!

Then the following year came and after months of practice and a lot of support from some amazing people. Sheila, Madonna, Cillian, Sylvia and Nicola ended up being my saviours, talking me down from most ledges and getting equally as excited as I was about make up and shiny things :) . The night of the 17th October 2009 was my first proper exposure to the world of Drag, And let me tell you this. It is bloody hard work! I thought it was simple. Every single hand movement finger flick eyebrow lift is precision engineered lol, and fabulous!!!

This little outing taught me an awful lot and brought whatever misconceptions I had about drag straight back down to earth. I was then lucky enough to be taken under the fabulous sparkly wing of the talented Miss Leslie B. Ann who taught me how to refine everything to a tee and dazzle like only a queen should. I learnt all the little tricks from here and after many a fabulous show in Riddlers the next big night was Alternative Miss Cork. This time we were prepared I had some amazing friends who were there to support me and some other amazing friends to share the experience with this was unlike any other I had experienced. I was never a huge stage entertainer growing up but boy was this fun. We managed to come 2nd that night and oh my god what a feeling!!! Its hard to mime when all you can do is smile ear to ear!

At the moment I am throwing ideas around for AML this year.. which will hopefully be amazing with all the new talent up and coming. Always remember it is not about how you feel. It is about how you make the audience feel and that is all that matters because your energy feeds off those guys!!!

If it isn’t shiny… it isn’t Pearl ;)
